Causes of the Afghanistan War
Afghanistan has been an unstable place for centuries. There has been conflict in Afghanistan ever since 1838. When the Taliban took control in the mid 1990’s, many terrorists were bred, including Osama Bin laden, the leader of Al Qaeda. This conflict elevated on a big scale in 2001 when the US invaded after the notorious 9/11 attacks in America, where terrorists flew planes into buildings such as the twin towers and pentagon, plotted by Osama Bin laden. It was clear he and Al Qaeda were behind this, and knowing they were located in Afghanistan, the US offered the Taliban, Afghanistan’s government an ultimatum; hand them over or we will strike with full military force. The Taliban refused to turn over Bin laden and the al-Qaeda terrorist group so the US alongside UN coalition forces invaded. Since then, the US and other counties in NATO such as Australia, have partnered with Afghanistan to respond and counter threats to international peace and security.
